This month we are focusing on obesity and weight control!Happy June! Is your pet overweight? 1

Obesity in pets is a very common problem and it is important to focus on your pet and their weight.

Obesity in pets can cause many different health problems including arthritis/joint pain, diabetes, respiratory issues, and a shorter life span.

It is easy to help your pet avoid becoming overweight by not over feeding, avoiding too many treats and avoiding human food, especially high in fats.

Remember to keep your pet active, walks every day for 20 minutes is enough to keep your dog at its ideal weight!

Indoor cats can gain weight quickly if they are overfed and laying around the house or sunbathing by the window.  Try finding them a spot to lay by making them jump to get there or try putting their food bowls up high so they can jump up to get it and work for it.

Scratching posts and cat trees are great to keep them moving, and of course toys!

There are therapeutic diet options to help your pet lose weight and get them to the goal weight quickly and diets to help maintain their ideal weight and give them a better quality of life.

Please reach out if you are concerned about your pet’s weight, and feel free to come in anytime to weigh your pet to help keep track!
